Captain Mike is a USCG 100 Ton Master and has been sailing the Puget Sound and San Juan islands for most of his life. Living in the Pacific Northwest just naturally leads to a life on the water, as many residents will tell you. Capt. Mike owns and operates the Armadillo, a 50′ ferro-cement Ketch, but has also had the pleasure of operating a variety of other vessels including the Mallory Todd, Lavengro, and the Lady Washington. The Lady Washington was the interceptor in the movie “The Pirates of the Carribean”. Some of you may know this ship as the one Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom took in the movie. Interesting fact, a helm was built for the movie which doesn’t actually exist. The Lady Washington has a 9 foot tiller made of purple heart. I’ll never forget the time we went out on a music video shoot with Macklemore. Rough Seas, everyone was getting seasick. But Macklemore got up and preformed like a champ, in spite of the rough seas. I was very impressed with his fortitude. It always takes a while to get your sea legs.
Sailing is my greatest pleasure and I enjoy taking guests out on cruises and letting them experience the Salish Sea aboard my unique vessel.
As a captain I am responsible for your safety and comfort. I love teaching you about sailing and sharing my knowledge of the sport.
I’m also a musician and enjoy playing music aboard on sailing trips. Yes, I know lots of sailing songs but also lots of originals, James Taylor, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Steely Dan, Old Rod Stewart, and great hits of the 60’s and 70’s.
Capt. Mike is a Scuba Diver, Sailor, Gourmet Cook, Web Site Developer, Musician, Contractor, Naturalist, and lover of the better things in life.
